I'm trying to get in shape and prep for highschool tryouts but I canNOT do a cartwheel or a roundoff. I did a standing front one time and I can do front handsprings but thats the extent of my tumbling. Plus I need to get stronger to be a base. But mainly its this: HOW THE HECK CAN I DO A CARTWHEEL!? Or a round-off?

Get the cartwheels first. You have to have them down before the round offs. This site can help you with both of them, and with handstands which are important to doing these skills well.

I always started facing front, not that silly side-ways crap. Stand facing the way you want to go with your hands above your head and your dominant foot pointed out infront of you. It looks graceful and also helps you figure out which way you're going. Do a little bit of a skip, keeping that position, to get momentum, then bend, put your dominant hand on the ground, and kick your legs up, in a forward motion. Be sure to keep your legs straight and place your non-dominant hand well. The cartwheel doesn't require as much momentum as a round-off. The round-off will look better with momentum and you'll have more of a spring to do some of those crazy flippy things you guys do. For a round-off, about half-way through the cartwheel, twist your body around and snap at the waist. Again, this gives you good spring and makes your movements look snappy and clean. Work on your cartwheels slowly at first. Work on the positioning of getting into them so that they get clean before you get them down incorrectly. Then slowly move on to a good cartwheel, and eventually a round-off. Good luck! I hope it goes well!

What i would do is pratice doing it on the wall do like a hand stand and spread your legs apart and slid your legs down to the sides and land it i really cant explain it but i do cheerleading and this really helps for your jumps stretch if u want to get them higher like toe touch hurkie pike and tuck. round off is like a cartwheel but keep you legs together at all timees

Um. You need to be able to do somersaults, back handsprings, and other higher level gymnastic maneuvers. You should have learned these basic moves YEARS ago, like in 3rd grade. You don't have a snowball's chance in hell. Let me know how it goes.

practice makes perfect. if you can afford it i would recommend you take some gymnastics classes, that will definitely shape you up, and get you ready for cheerleading.
