I'm using a 30day Kasperksy trial package. Seems to solve the major problems.
You can control which programs autoload with Start > Run > MsConfig. Also take a look at the SERVICES which autoload.
Your external hard disk might be connected through a slow port. USB has two versions and neither is as fast as directly connecting with an internal drive cable.

If you are running XP than your 1 GB of ram is probably saficiant however if you are running Vista than you really need at least 2 GB of ram.
Also having a usb harddrive will not speed up your pc they are only for data (music, videos, pr0n), you don't want to install programs to them or especially set windows to use it as the swap file drive.
Hope this has helped, Happy New Year

It may be that you need to clean out all temp, history, and such. Then run file check, do a defrag. Also check the memory allocation for swap etc. If all that does not help there may be some trash in your registry files. That is a dangerous area to mess with, so get some good help - along with a good program.

I strongly recommend the Kapersky packages such as Defender Pro. There is a free version, but the cash version is very good. AND very thorough.

we bought windows live one care,it takes care of everything, and you can use it on three computers.Having tried about every one of the dozens of programs out their,Norton .macafee, spy doctor, and many others I like this one the best,it doesn't slow your computer down like others and after four months it seems to be doing a great job.Good luck in your search and hope you find what you need.
