11-1234567 or 111-23-4567 depending if the taxpayer is a company or individual. Taxpayer ID for individuals is just the Social Security number for business is two numbers a dash and seven numbers. You can see your company's number on your W2.

TIN=tax identification number and is usually associated with state sales tax agencies.

Some contain letters and numbers, some just numbers and many end up being the same number as your EIN (employer identification number) which is issued by the IRS.

In Michigan if you don't have an EIN, the state assigns you a "temporary" number that starts with TN (temporary number) followed by a dash and I believe 6 digits.
