The lighter-colored regions of the Moon are called terrae, or more commonly just highlands, since they are higher than most maria.
The dark and relatively featureless lunar plains humans can clearly see when the Moon is full are called maria (singular mare), Latin for seas.

Normal areas. Lighter areas indicate higher elevation. The normal surface of the moon is lighter than the dark areas of the moon, which are lower.

would you believe that much of the light-colored rock in the Lunar highlands is a plagioclase feldspar.

this mineral also occurs on the Earth where one form of it has been known for centuries as .... MOONSTONE!
