I used to see ads in the paper a lot for sleeping rooms. It's not an apartment; it's a room within someone's house. I think it's kind of an old concept. They were for single people like old maids who wanted somewhere to live, but couldn't afford an apt. I moved back to my hometown and have had trouble finding enough work to afford an apt. I have two part-time jobs, and could afford a sleeping room. I could have my meals with the owners or cook on my own. Yet, I've been checking the classifieds, and don't see any listings. What happened to sleeping rooms? People surely still rent out parts of their houses these days, right? I know people who live in the upstairs of old houses, but those are apts., and are pretty crappy. Should I place my own ad? I'm just sick of living with my family. I'd rather live with strangers.

Run your own ad in the paper.

Woman in search of roommates or sleeping room situation. Honest, hard-working and no criminal background. Perfect for person who needs to make a little extra cash. Please call:
xxx-xxx-xxxx

Or try craigslist.

Just make sure you have a contract, and that you specify things such as common areas, meals, grocery buying, cleaning the bathroom and leaving.

Don't do it without spelling out the homeowners and your responsibilites and rights.

Good luck

Look for "rooms to let" or "room with board". Frankly, I'd rather look for an efficiency or studio apartment than live in a room in someone else's house.

Craig's list in your city will have rentals in people's homes. Another thing is you can live with a senior citizen in exchange for chores sometimes if you are quiet.
