No, not really. I know that there are several people who do certain things to with them good luck in the new year.

Personally, I just pray. God is my good luck charm, on a daily basis.

May God Bless all of you through the new year.

A new year is really just an arbitrary demarcation, especially if you consider that the Gregorian calendar that we use is not the only calendar. One day is really no different than another.

Nevertheless, it cannot hurt to say "from this day forward" just as long as you stick with it. Laws go into effect on a specific date. Leaders are elected and inaugurated on a specific date.

So, it seems to me that the crucial aspect is the determination and commitment by the individual to use January 1st as an effective date. It could be any date but there is good reason to use that one as it is a day that comes "out of the box" with a ready-made celebration and psychological sense of a new start.

The way you begin each day will determine how the rest of the year/life will be

I think that it is important to start the year off right, but it is mostly just the mindset and the idea of a new beginning and you realize it is something different and you can change. In reality, it doesn't determine how the rest of the year will turn out.

No I don't believe that. I think it's fun to stop and meditate on the passing year, and make plans for the coming year, but I don't think that the way my new year begins will determine the whole.

If the year begins with lots of drunken people shouting 'whooo' to fireworks, I hope it doesn't determine how the year will be.
The sad fact is that most of the time one year is very much like the rest, with periodic shifts about every four years.

Perhaps if you have a meaningful resolution and get behind it such that you have momentum, working towards a goal, you can make it a good year. I don't think however that what happens to you in January by itself will determine the rest of your year.

No, not really. Maybe if you start your year on a bad foot it might effect the rest of the year. Just remember to always smile and it'll be ok!

I sincerely hope so. I am ending a two-year relationship with my Significant Other tomorrow and that will be the end of 2007. So I am hoping that 2008 will bring me somebody new, somebody who can love me as much as I do him. Only time will tell.

Only the very naive and gullible believe it to be so!!! It is actually a day like any other....separated from others only to facilitate mathematical calculations in our chaotic lives.

Nothing magical about it, to influence the rest of your days...

P.S. Sorry to burst the bubble!!!
