I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off
the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from
her and I asked her not to do that. 'Why?' my daughter asked. 'Because
it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty, and
probably has germs' I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me
with total admiration and asked, 'Momma, how do you know all this stuff,
you are so smart.' I was thinking quickly. 'All moms know this stuff. It's
on the Mom Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mom.' We
walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently
pondering this new information. 'OH...I get it!' she beamed, 'So if you
don't pass the test you have to be the dad.

''Exactly' I replied back with a big smile on my face.

This is not to be taken seriously. Okay? lol

No, it's not to be taken seriously, and yes, it is cute. I wonder, though, whether you shouldn't "schedule" a day when she is older to let her know that you didn't really mean to be disrespectful to her daddy, but when she said what she did, it struck you as so clever that you couldn't help but agree.

Sorry for injecting the serious in here, but I hear entirely too much about kids getting mad because their parents "lied" to them, when all they were really doing was acknowledging that they didn't have a good answer, so they made one up. Be sure to remind her that she made things up, too.

I got this email joke a while back - in the frame of mind that I was in, it was hilarious. But, my kids are without a father figure (he's a dead-beat) and it is very important for kids to have that presence in their lives. Especially boys.
