They are awesome. I saw them a few times, once only 5 feet away at the Allentown Fairgrounds for the Full Moon Fever Tour. I still like some of the more obscure stuff like Southern Accents and Insider. It's pretty cool too how a great band can also have really cool videos (Into the Great Wide Open, You Got Lucky, Don't Come Around Here No More)

I dig Tom Petty. It's funny cuz the two main guitars I have that I've been using ately are my Telecaster and my Flying V, and those are the same guitars Tom Petty is known for often using onstage. But I like the music. MQ: My favorite song of his is probably "Mary Jane's Last Dance". MQ2: Hmm...I'm gonna go with Tom Petty on this one, though I do dig Springsteen as well.

I've been listening to a lot of Tom Petty lately, although I've always liked him and his group... what an amazing songwriter! I especially love listening to his music on road trips- something about cruising down the freeway with Saving Grace, American Girl, Running Down a Dream, Free Falling, Square One, (etc...), blasting over the stereo...
* Just saw the movie The Postman the other night... I had no idea Tom Petty was in it! When I saw him, I was like "hey, that's Tom Petty!" lol; he's not a bad actor :)

Yeah! They're authentic American rock'n'roll. "Don't Do Me Like That" is one of the best rock songs ever recorded.
BTW - Tom's a great songwriter. That's why the best musicians want to work with him: George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, etc.

Love, love LOVE Tom Petty! Lately I have been listening to "Into the Great Wide Open" again. I forgot how much I enjoy that cd. "Damn the Torpedos" was great too - have that on vinyl :)

To be honest, they're OK
not the best I've ever heard but they were good sometimes

I do too. My favorite song is "I won't back down" I think the Marines should adopt it. He says "you can stand me up at the gates of hell, and I won't back down"
