Whenever I try to watch shows like Project Runway or A Shot at Love, my dad makes me turn it off because there's gay people on it.
I don't see anything wrong with gay people and I have nothing against them whatsoever. And I get really mad when my dad says mean stuff about them.
And please don't get mad at me for posting this or anything, but I really hate that my father is like this.
Do you guys have any ideas to help me make him you know, not like, mean?

Edit- He thinks that it's like an abnormality, not really a choice, and that's what makes me mad.

I'm not mad at you for posting this. However I am a little ticked at your father. I don't know how old you are but listen to me, you are in his house, and you need to pick and choose your battles with him. You are a remarkable young woman with a great sense of what it takes to be a good person. If your father insists on being like this pass it by your mother if she is in the picture. If not, tell a trusted adult outside the home, a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, someone accessable to you just so you have a place to vent and an ear to listen openly. In a few short years you will be out on your own so just bide your time and challenge him only when you feel it absolutely necessary.

I don't like gay people either but I'm not the type of person to say those types of things. In your situation I would just say that you are entitled your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. Everybody is entitled to there own opinions. So just don't watch those types of shows when your dad is around.

Your dad's a bigot. Plain and simple. My dad is, too. I tried for YEARS to get him to see certain things in a different light. Nothing worked, so I just gave up. He's going to be who he is until the day he dies. The same is probably true of your dad, too.

Go watch TV in your room then. It appears you live at home so most people own more then 1 television. Also you are under his roof, and need to do as he says or move out. My Dad was a total dick and the biggest racist, homophobe, etc. etc. etc. Just a very miserable man to live with.

i think you must talk to him openly...dont argue but talk....like u can start saying that ....wel dad, i came to know that homosexuality is actually genetic and not a choice????? ....just my advice...it may not work though...but atleast strike a ocnversation in a neutral way.....dont go with close ended question but ask him a question that makes him think for a moment before he answers....

It's how he was programmed to think as his own sexual energies were emerging. Only a huge crash of some sort can ever change that programming. Just let him be.

Sadly it's just the way some people are and there's not much you can do except leave them to their narrow-mindedness and not be the same.xxx

He probably hates the sin not the sinner. Don't worry about your dad, worry about yourself instead.
