I think it depends on the individual. Some peopl I know that are 20+ should not be dating, others at 12-13 have a boyfriend that are doing fine. I think it depends on the maturity level of a person, and what the classify as dating. Movies together (with an adult around) is ok at 12 and above. It is the things that come with dating that most people are worried about. (ie sex kissing etc lol) But dating with an adult chaperon (in the background not sitting next to them) I think can be allowed from the age of 12. Solo dates I would say at least 16, but again it depends on the individual, the family circumstances and event.

You should at least be able to legally drive yourself away from a situation that may not be going well (such as - at a party). IMHO, 13-14 is too young for single dating for either girl or boy. Realistically, you can look at it like this: the child has been on the earth only 14 years and more than half of that - was totally dependent upon a grown-up. Dating should start around 16 and then only if the individual child exhibits good judgement and decision-making skills.

i don't think it has to do with age. it is really up to what your parents approve of. i don't suggest letting a 12, 13, 14 or even 15 year old date. too young. kids don't know their emotions yet. I guess 16 is ok, as long as the parents know what's up.
i started dating when i was 15, but when that happened, all I did was go to the movie with the boy. we called each other on the phone and sent letters (before email). once i got older, i saw the kid more often. just check with your parents and make sure they know the person you want to date.
