Yes, of course they work.......it totally depends on the two individuals.........and I saw a couple like that on Oprah...........they were really poor in their respectful countries and now they own a house building company........their stories were very sad and Inspiring
can't remember their names or the date or name of that episode

I am originally from India, so is my wife. We are in US for the
last 23 years and have been married in US for the last 19 years with 3 great kids. We happen to be from the same city in India
and yet had no idea that my wife's family was also in US until we
met through common family friends.
I cant complain that I am married for so long and going on fine.
No opposition from either side....unless you want to ????
Related to Chinese, I have a very close friend who is married
for more than 22 years and having a good life. He is a true
Christian.
