If you use it on a soft surface, it blocks the fans. Yes, it will shut down to protect itself when it gets too hot. Let it rest for about an hour, then plug it in on a hard surface. It should turn back on. Don't set it on a soft surface any more when you're using it. put a book under it or something. Good luck!

What were you doing with your laptop? Have you been moving it around at all or accidentally bump it? If so, you should check to see if the battery is seated properly. It may be seated, but if not properly, it will not allow you to use it. The connection between the laptop and the battery have to be secure.Take it out, and reseat it. Also, is your battery charged? Plug your laptop into an electrical outlet and then try powering it on. If it does not power on, then it could have either overheated or the battery needs to be reseated.
If this happens again, then most likely, it is overheating. Continuing to use your laptop when that is the case can cause serious damage to your laptop, your processor especially, depending on what is overheating.

Allow it to cool for several hours.
Make sure the battery is charged.
Try it again, after it cooled.

First, you really shouldn't use it on your bed.
Let it cool down if it still doesn't respond remove the battery and then put it back in....if it still doesn't respond you're screwed=(
