Opposite, because then you would want to know what your spouse saw in them that they didn't see in you. If they left you for someone of the same sex, well you wouldn't be able to compete with that.

Both would hurt but I think I would be more hurt if they left me for the opposite sex. The same sex I may laugh about on down the road.

Wow both would hurt! I am a straight woman and have have been happily married to a man, my husband for 11 years. I would feel worse if he left me for another woman. If he left me for a man it would be different because a man has something I could not give him emotionally and physically. A woman is a woman and that would be more insulting to me. That is just my opinion though.

Cheating hurts really bad regardless the gender of the other person, I do think that if you had no idea that your s.o. was swinging both ways that would make it hurt more than if you already knew they were bi and this was a possibility.

the pain would be about the same no matter who they left u for, because u still get abandoned, kicked to the curb by someone u loved and trusted. u are dealing with a betrayal and a loss. they still left u for someone else, chose that other person over u, doesn't matter who they left u for, your still going to be devastated, and your heart torn in pieces.

If you're comparing relationships that are based on *love*, then I would imagine the pain is equal for a man who lost his wife to a woman, or a woman who lost her husband to a man.
If you're asking what pain would be worse - losing your lover to someone of a different sexual orientation than yours (you're gay and lose your same sex lover to the opposite gender, or you're hetero, and lose your lover to a gay relationship), or losing your lover to someone of the same sexual orientation, I would say the later.
For the latter, I think it bruises the ego more to lose your lover to someone who *could* be you. For the former, I think it would be easier to say - what could I do? S/he's not the same sexual orientation as me! Not *my* "fault".

it would feel the same wether you got left for a man or a woman. When you are in love it all hurts when you are left or cheated on.
