This is a fairly common problem for older Honda's. When you replaced the distributor did you also replace the ignition coil. This is a small little metal rectangular box behind the rotor of the distributor.

When the ignition coil fails, the rpm needle goes crazy.

Check this component out. Replace it and your car should be fine.

By the way, you should always use oem Honda parts. Honda recently reduced the oem parts prices and they should be very competitive with aftermarket ones.

Sounds like the ECU is messed up. Take it to a shop and have them put it on a machine to see if it is throwing any codes.

You need to get it scanned sounds like a computer problem. Either that or a bad ground somewhere.
