Often athletes start their periods later than normal because of their lower body fat. I'm not sure that there is a way for you to know your period will start the first time. My first time was completely out of the blue, I didn't feel anything except maybe wetness on my panties. It wasn't until maybe a year of having monthly periods that I started having cramps. Now I just use cramping as a sign that my period's coming. However, the process is really variable and I know some people might feel cramps even though it's their first time. Also, some people will start lightly and notice a brownish discharge or spotting on their panties before starting or on their first day. This is something you can watch for, but you can never be sure if this is what will happen to you.

There is no definite way to tell because every girl is different. You may notice that you get stomach cramps or feel bloated. You may also get mood swings or start having abnormal discharge. If you do start your period in the pool, it is most likely that you will not bleed enough for people to notice. Most females do not bleed much when in water.

I think the chances are very slim that you will actually start your period while your in the water since for some reason the blood doesn't come out when you're in water....i dont know why but it's true.
and you will tell if it's about to happen when you start getting more discharge and if you get brownish colored discharge.

ur period won't start in the pool and if it does you can only see it in the inside part of your swimming suit and it has to be really hevy for it to go through so don't worry about it in the pool it's like when a little kid pees in the pool no one notices except hin!!

If you start getting cramps, just check yourself before you go swimming. Also, because you swim, you'll probably need to use a tampon. I used a pad the first day of mine and hated it, plus I didn't want to wear one for dance, so I switched to tampons. They don't hurt and are cleaner than pads, so don't worry if you need to use one for swimming!

Just bring some tampons just in case.
FYI, water does NOT stop nor does it slow down your period! Those who say it will stop or slow in the water are WRONG. What happens is the water disperses the blood quickly, so it only LOOKS like it stops or slows. I assure you, you will bleed into the water.

You will know because you will get brown discharge stuff in your knickers a day or two before it begins. Try having some pads in your bag so if you get caught short you will be prepared.

For me my stoumach was hurting and I had more discharge but don't worry. For most people when they start it is really light and for most girls their period will stop when they are swimming so I doubt that yours will start then

You can't tell, and it wouldn't be a disaster if you start in the pool...it starts slowly....
