k so ive been listening 2 music full blast (directly in my ears) since 4th grd & i used 2 listen 2 pop music but ever since 6th grd ive gotten into rock heavy metal and hard rock. KORN is my fav band EVER!! i usually listen 2 my music during passing time which is like 6 min (full blast) and a lot of ppl tell me that i will completely lose my hearing & i wanna kno if thatll actually happen or will i just not hear as well as i should. im 14 & this is pratically an addiction for me. my music is so loud that when u pass by me (w/o any background noise) u can hear the words (well almost) ive had my 5th Generation iPod 4 a year now, so now the music is LOUDER! when i go 2 the doctor 4 my check-up & take the hearing test beepie thingie i usually get like a perfect score! so my question is will i lose my hearing or some of it? i dont wanna be 16 and have 2 wear a hearing aid!

If you ever have ringing in your ears after listening to your music that is a sign the music is too loud. This applies to using your ipod as well as any other noise you may expose yourself to such as concerts, mowing the lawn, power tools etc. For everyone I recommend protecting your ear with earplugs when mowing the lawn and using tools as you don't need to expose yourself to that noise it is just annoying and you can still hear some stuff with earplugs in. As far as listening to your music you should try to turn it down a bit both to be safe in protecting your hearing and also because it sounds like it is annoying to other people. YES you WILL lose your hearing if you keep this up though it will take a LONG time and you WILL regret it later. Its not worth it. Once the hearing is gone it does not come back. Each time you have ringing in your ears after being exposed to loud sounds you likely lost a little bit of hearing. Eventually the ringing may stay and never go away and that is really annoying. This is a very serious matter, but I do want to say that you are doomed to be deaf by listening to your music on full volume for 6 min. But if you have it turned down you can safely listen to your music for several hours.

Please listen to me young one.I have tinnitus that's ring in my ears.I've had it for over 15 years.It was from a concert(Paul Stanley 1st solo tour at the Stone Pony he brought in a pa to power full for a small venue!)
Please turn it down you'll never have a minute of silence it really sucks.It get worse.You'll have to turn it up louder to hear music which in turn damages the cillia worse.I've lost almost all the high end stuff(When people whisper it kills me!)
I used to keep ear plugs with me at all time when I first damaged my hearing.(I worked as a live rock Photographer one of my clients was Tripp rex Esien from Static X you know the guy who got kicked out a few years ago-To tell ya truth I thought he was gay!)

You won't go deaf just yet but life will suck bad.
Imagine hearing bells or cicadas(insects) in your head not just your ears 24 hours a day 7 days a week even when you want to sleep.It gets more intense when you drink allot of caffeine,or get stressed out.

I used to think "If it's to loud,you're to old" was true.Now that I'm 40,and have had this for over 15 years I can tell you I was wrong.By the way I like Korn also they kick *** and would tell you to turn it down(Most artists wear ear plugs onstage so they don't get tinnitus).Just look in some live concert shots you'll see them.I know Metallica wears them.If it's good enough for them,it should be good for you.

A good rule of thumb is if some-else can hear it(Ear buds are the worse for it by the way!) it's to loud!
If you go see a concert wear ear plugs when sitting/standing on the floor they sell them at Cvs,and their cheap.

Sorry for such a long winded answer but I'd hate to see some-else suffer.It's not painfull but it's very annoying,and can drive you crazy(Van Go might have it)
Listen if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

Yes you will lose your hearing. Because you're listening to it on FULL BLAST!

Listen to it quieter. I've been listening to music for a year but never put it full blast, and I still have perfect,above average hearing. Nothing has changed for me.

I listen to it on full blast too, but I also have wonderful hearing.
I listen to metal also, I like it loud and heavy, so unless you see some serious signs of hearing loss, enjoy your music, or buy some crappy earphones, the ones that aren't that loud on full blast. :p;
