and why the yankee northeast and black people vote Democrat today?
It was obviously the complete opposite in the past.
Apparently, the Southern Strategy explanation that even the former Chairmen of the Republican Party, Ken Mehlen, admitted to, is not true.
Then what is?
Did all the Lincoln Republicans and their offspring move down South because it was too cold, and all the racist Democrats and their offspring move up north because it was too hot?
Explain the elections of 1948 and 1964. Why did southerners form their Dixiecrat Party in 1948 and why did they vote Republican in 1964?

The south is traditional. They believe in God, guns, and hard work. Southerners are generally humble and believe in relationships over things.
In the northeast, you have a large population of Jews. Jews vote democrat and are not moral conservatives. The third that are Republican are so because they are economic conservatives.
Also in the northeast are major cities where the democrats are concentrated. If you took LA and San Francisco out of CA, it would be a Republican state.
There is something about big cities that attract people who try and keep up with the Joneses.

You want the real reason, or an excuse?
The real reason, is because the Democrat party became more liberal during the Civil Right's Movement. The democrat party embracing civil rights, alienated many of the more conservative "southern democrats", that ended up running their own candidates in opposition to the Democrat party.
Eventually the "Southern Democrats" or "Dixiecrats" joined the Republican ranks driving the party toward ultra-conservatism.
neoconservatism is another concept entirely, which arose as ultra-conservatives viewed the traditional conservative movement, as too weak to do what is best for America, embracing big government military spending, and security at all costs, even if that cost is freedom.
Rumor has it that neoconservatism arose as a liberal movement, but to change all your liberals ideals to conservative ones, doesn't even make it a logical explanation. I think the source of that rumor, is in the fact that it was started by power-mongering educated types, and we all know what conservatives call people who are college educated...right?

Interesting question, but you speak in general terms. A five percent swing in the south would see Democrats elected in those states and a similar swing in the north would see the Republicans voted in the Northeast and California.
Education often amounts to new ideas and new wealth, which is currently concentrated on the seaboards. Less educated people tend to vote conservative, for a variety of reasons. So a greater proportion of conservatives are concentrated in the middle and south of the country.

I don't know about all of that but I do know the South.
They get the United Council of Churches in America to say vote Republican and they do it. This is the bible belt.
They are for family values and against abortion and Well that is the bill of goods they tell them. Why anyone believes it or the churches is beyond me. Who am I and what do I know.
The TV Evangelists come on TV everyday and say we are for the Republicans that is the party of God. Send me money and God will make you rich.
So far only the TV Evangelists have gotten rich and I haven't seen abortions done away with or anything that even looks like family values. But as long as these people are told by the churches to vote Republican if hitler was running they would do it. The USA has their own religious extremists.
And the people listen to the religious clerics. Let me strap on a bomb or pick up a rifle and join the military it is all the same.
God bless the guns and help us kill.

Well both parties have changed radically since the 60s.. I think the south votes mostly Republican today because they finally got over Lincoln and didn't like Johnson.
The northeast is highly liberal therefore highly Democrat.. you think Hillary would have won in Arkansas?
Black people are very diversified now.. they may still have a majority Dem but I think they are realizing the Dems are just as rich, or more so, than than Republicans.. and so they vote more sensibly now. The next group the Dems are trying to take is the Mexican populations in Southern California, New Mexico, AZ, Texas areas.. they are playing the same card they did for the blacks in the 60s and 70s. When your poor and hungry you tend to believe the Dem rhetoric.. heck I was a Dem when I was in my teens and 20s.. I think back and wonder why.. but yeah I did.

I could give you a reeeeeeally long answer, but the easiest way to say it is that Republicans are at their core pro-corporation/industry, and Democrats are at core pro-farm.
Republicans decided to jump on the religious moral high ground, and Democrats jumped on to the humanist moral high ground. That's how things flip-flopped.
Basic answer.

Because back in the early 80's the old southern Democrats changed parties and hi-jacked the Republican party.
The Neo-Cons are just pro-tax, big government, Democrats who oppose abortion and support the second ammendment
Neo-Cons are Democrats

Cause the north isn't stupid. The traitor southerners infiltrated the republican party and destroyed it. Some lincoln republicans and offspring still live in the north. Sorry to burst your bubble but the majority of racists still live in the south.

As soon as you explain why the south is still where the majority of blacks live. Right they live here in the south with us where they have the best life.
The Republican party still does not base anything on skin color. It is the democrats that base everything on skin color or gender. We still believe that all are equal and should have the same rights not special rights for each.
1957 was the first Civil Rights bill and it was Republican pushed. The Democrats filibustered that one too. It passed but was stripped until meaningless.
Lyndon Johnson's record on civil rights was terrible. Real history.
