The way I picture it happening is some rouge nation like Iran or North Korea, probably someone in the Middle East with oil, will get a hold of a WMD and use it against a neighboring country. (I see it being Iran and Israel the one being hit with the WMD)
The US would come in at full throttle at Iran, along with Israel, Britain, Canada, Australia, and other coalition forces. Russia and/or China will try to secure its oil supply from Iran and come in trying to protect Iran. Then North Korea will take the chance of the World having their hands tied in the Middle East and invade South Korea. Japan and South Korea will then invade the North.
The human race won't end after WW3, but the civillizations and way of live we know today will.

China - China is very pollutant and has some military level. Socialist Republic.
U.S.A. - U.S.A. is very pollutant and has a big military level. Not to mention, we have to get involved in everything.Federal Constitional Presidential Republic. Locked on wikipedia.
Russia - Russia is somewhat pollutant and has some military level. Semi-Presidential Republic.
Israel - Israel is pretty low pollutant and pretty high military level. Parliamentary democracy. Locked on wikipedia.
North Korea - North Korea I am not sure about pollutant and has a somewhat big military level. Juche Stalinist Dictatorship. Locked on wikipedia.
India - India has a pretty high pollutant and has pretty high military level. Federal Republic Parliamentary Democracy.
Pakistan - Pakistan I am not sure about pollutant and has pretty high military level. Islamic Republic. Locked on wikipedia.
All of these countries have nuclear bombs. North Korea is not in the U.N. In addition, they are not very stable. If I had to pick one of these countries to be one that would destroy the planet first, it would either be China or U.S.A. due to pollutant or North Korea due to nuclear bombs. Since they are an unstable dictatorship, anything could really happen.

China-no, they hold their economy in too much esteem to risk a large nuclear war=less trade
USA-no, the US and Russia learned their lesson from the cold war, and don't want a repeat of it.
Russia-See US
Israel-If push comes to shove, they may be the most likely to use nuclear weapons (because they may feel cornered due to location)
India-Besides Pakistan, why would they even bother? So probably not
Pakistan-They may use nukes if they feel very threatened. But it would have to be a national threat.

What's with this selfish attitude and this lack of cooperation among nations? Let's be team players here and ALL pitch in to destroy the planet.
We have the talent, we have the technology, and all we need is the desire to succeed.
A few more nukes, a little more religion, some paranoia, some fear---people, we can DO this!

actually Israel, North Korea, India and Pakistan do not have such nuck power and probably will not.
The can create only regional Armageddon.
China now - fast growing power and will be better off w/o nuck war.
Russia by itself never threaten to use nucks as a war weapon to anyone. They kept it as retaliation weapon against USA.
(Moreover - if Russia decided to restore USSR borders - it has no sense to nuck it's future land).
As to USA - it's clearly seek now to get overwhelming nuck advantage over Russia. And Russia is not going to let it happened.
So, one the first stage we will see significant increase in nuck's spending and on the second stage (if we are unlucky)
we will see the globe-wide nuck war.

At this time there are only two nations who could destroy mankind. US and Russia. China is coming along. My thought is who will destroy it 2nd. Bottom line, I don't see anyone nation to blame the destruction of the world. We just might slowly die off of super bugs that are drug resistant, climate change, something hitting the earth, etc.

Some 3rd world shìthole like Iran will try and start world war 3 and the USA will be forced to remove a few middle east countries from the globe's surface. Then others will take offense and we will be forced to erase a few more.

Good question. It does seem to be a race to see who can destroy the world first. Looks like Russia is moving ahead but there are some real contenders.

Germany certainly has a chance if they come back with a rage in the defeat of World War 2. Japan has a chance if they blow up the USA to get even with blowing up Tokyo. China wants to kill us all with lead in products.

No one has ever tried to destroy the planet. Humans with that much power are not self destructive and hell bent on total destruction.
