I've become obsessed with wanting to be an actress. But im not really sure of how to practice. There arent any local theatres or anything, my school doesnt do plays, and Im not really sure If I can afford to take acting lessons. Its something that I really want to do though. Any ideas? please?
and also, what do they look for during auditions? do they have you memorize lines beforehand? I tried watching Miley Cyrus's audition tapes for help, but im still a little confused. Any tips would be helpful. =] thanks

Hi There :)
First of all, I think your dream is awesome. I also assume by saying you want to be an actress, you mean a trained actor, opposed to getting famous really quickly. Having said that, are you sure there are no community theaters in your area? Depending on where you are, there should be some close by. It is unfortunate your school does not do plays, however, that should not stop you. You could see if there are some of your peers that are also interested in acting, speak with your principal, and create your own drama club. I'm sure you would be able to use the auditorium or some space for a performance.
Also, read as many plays as possible. Get as much experience as you can. Be involved in any theatrical opportunity that comes your way (minus the scam "talent agent" stuff). If you are truly serious about this, get training. Don't be super worried if you are unable to build up a huge resume. You can do college theater (as a major) with no previous stage experience. While this is not super common, it is not unusual. Just have confidence :)
As for auditions, it depends on who you are auditioning for. The best things to remember for an audition are to be confident-- always be sure of yourself and why you are there; and choose pieces you could play (ie. your race, gender, age range)-- and always choose a monologue from a PLAY, not monologue book, and make sure you have read the play. Always memorize a monologue before you audition. There are several ways to memorize a monologue (repetition, reading it out loud, writing it out), you just have to find what works for you.
It's great you are doing as much research as you can, but even if there is no theater around you, don't let that stop you from your dream. Create your own art around you, and never give up :)
Best of luck!

In both VA, MD and DC there are many childern's and adult's community theaters that are constantly auditioning. If you are really serious about this read the weekend section of the washington post. Inside there is an audition section in the theater listings. If I where you I would ask my parents to take me to auditions and rehearsals as a christmas/birthday present or a reward for good grades or something. If they won't do that then start reading plays and Audition by Micheal Shurtleff and go to a college with a good acting program.

You are in a tough spot. A teen cannot become an actress without her parents' help. So you have to do that and beg for their help. Watching Miley Cyrus is no way to learn anything. Whatta ya mean your school has no plays, I never heard of such a thing. Change schools. Youngsters always have to learn by participating in all the speech and drama stuff at school. Good luck.

concentration on getting the pimples under administration. attempt Proactiv or some thing to sparkling up your face. As for the teeth, perchance attempt whitening them. So in the event that they see your crooked teeth they're going to a minimum of be pearly white, which could make a difference. of direction you may desire to do no longer something and audition for an element of a geeky teen or some thing that would desire to require an visual charm like that.

If there are absolutely no local theatres where you are, move to civilization.
