Common Map Turtle(Graptemys geographica)?

Question

The Map turtle I rescued can't close his jaw all the way there's always a gap. He eat eats fine but he has trouble eatting worms.

Is this caused by his pass care or do you think he was born like this?

I am planning on taking him to the vet, I just was wondering if anyone has any ideas what would cause this.

It could be from a previous injury--he should be able to shut his mouth. A trip to an experienced herp vet would be a good idea to have it checked out.
