well i started on a yzf600r and almost learned the hard way plenty of times. its by God's grace i didnt die on those occassions. i wont say that the bikes are too fast because the bike is only gonna go as fast as you want it to. but they are less forgiving than a smaller displacement bike. also you can learn more technique on a smaller bike too. anyways between both bikes i would probably choose the cbr 600. not the cbr 600rr but the cbr 600f4i only because it is more comfortable of a ride. i belive they stopped making it this year though. the 600rr is still being made. if not the f4i id prolly do the gxr just cuz i like the style of the headlight/nose fairing. only other advice i can give is get a used bike because its more likely than not that you will drop it within your 1st few months. rather drop an old bike than a brand new one. oh and most importantly ALWAYS wear gear. it will save your head and skin literally. be safe and have fun!!!!!!

In my opinion the CBR is the better bike. Both companies update their bikes every year but on opposite years so in 2007 the CBR had better performance so in 2008 the SEX will be better. All that said Honda in general will corner better while the Suzuki will often have a stronger engine. I buy Honda since it is more reliable-bulletproof. I currently have two, one 1000(new) and one 600 or drag racing(extended swing, custom exhaust, map, lowered, etc.

I'll answer with Honda , but I've never been a Suzuki fan, I feel the Honda is a smoother bike, But for a beginner bike I would almost want to recommend the Kawasaki ZZR 600 ,very sweet bike and is a little easier to work on which is a plus unless you have loads of money and like your bike sitting at the shop for weeks at a time.

Steering damper. CBR does not have it. For a beginner, this is a good thing. Go with the CBR. Steering dampers have contributed to more low speed accidents than you could imagine. Sure they may have prevented a few high speed wobbles, but esp as a beginner, the damper is going to burn you more likely than help you.

The cbr is a milder bike. The gsxr i think is a bit more powerful.

both bikes are spot on. its down to personnel preferrence really looks ect. Ive had both and loved them.
people talk about this been quicker than that, there is no real difference that you'll notice untill your racing around a track.
good luck.
