Hi D, You are kind to your son, you are making him see the expense of raising children. So he knows he needs work. This is a positive thing you have shown him. Take care D.

True, you shouldn't get married and have kids too young. Everything requires planning ahead. Work and put aside something till your 30 or so, travel a bit but not above your means. Than be content with having a little less. You can than have both world.
If you have kids and turn off the television they are not bombarded with commercials to buy this and that. They will likely get it in school though. So instill in them real value then you can have money for whats important.
J.P Getty said money doesn't necessarily lead to happiness... maybe unhappiness. He was very rich.

Hi D, I have 4 children, the eldest is with his girlfriend now in Australia for a couple of weeks. I am glad they are having fun now before they settle down. Financially we struggle having helped 2 through University, the 3rd about to go next year and an 8 year old. The kids mean more to me than any amount of money but I can see your point and I would wish my kids didn't have to struggle so much to make ends meet. I think you are right to advise him but then let him make up his own mind. Good luck.

Whew, how sad is that! Why would you tell him something like that? Its his decision to make whether or not he wants to have kids. He could make for a wonderful parent, but telling him that, leaves plenty for doubt, because he will always remember what you told him.
I always remembered when raising my son a statement I heard by Malcolm X, "The mother is the 1st teacher of the child, what you teach that child, that child gives to the world"....
What kind of message are you really sending him??

You want the best for your son and that is understandable. It will really be your son's choice when he is in a position to have children. How would you feel now if you didn't have your son and travelled around the world? children are precious and there is no need for them to be an expense.

If you are comparing the value of being a parent to the cost of having kids and coming down on the side giving up the value to avoid the cost then I prefer your blood line die out anyways. BTW great message to send your son --- wish I got to travel instead of being stuck with your costly ***.

My dad told my sister & I the same thing, he said if he could go back in time he wouldn't have us for the very reasons you mention. And I lost all respect for him as a father & a person. I hope you haven't made your son feel unloved & unwanted as my dad did to us.

Depending on his age he is probly thinking cause of me mom and dad are always broke, I'm the reason they fight over money, if I wasn't here they could travel the world. You just scared your child for life. FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF !!!!
