I recently bought an 80gb classic video iPod. When I plugged the iPod in for the first time, it connected perfectly and synced with iTunes. However the 2nd or 3rd time of syncing, it failed to sync with iTunes but my computer made the routine usb connection noise. Following this I found the iPod screen to have frozen. I have tried to switch off and reset but neither work, so the screen is permanently frozen on the last track I was listening to. At the moment the only option I have is to leave it on until it runs out of battery life. Please help!

Hi - same thing happened to me, also with the 80 Gb Classic. Nothing to be done, I let the battery run down as there was no option. The iPod became a lot more civil when it needed power! Since then it has worked perfectly. Hope this helps - don't worry! I did not have to reset it or anything - it was all still there, all my music, photos and files.
Best of luck, G

Reset it. (This does not erase any of your songs, video, etc.. it just restarts it like restarting a computer)

Push the hold button on the top forward and then push it back to unhold it THEN hold the menu and center circle button UNTIL a black screen pops up with the apple logo on it and then feel free to unhold the menu and center button.

EDIT! Running the battery out also as well works but the info above is much faster and saves energy.

Hey, not sure how you do it, (Check apples website) but you can reboot the ipod something like press down and the centre button at the same time.

If you still have problems, take it to one of the apple shops, but is best to book in as it is appointment only for faiulty goods.

the same happened to mine. You have to switch the hold button on, then off, then you have to hold the centre button and the play button at the same time for 6 seconds, this resets the ipod. I looked it up on the apple website, and it worked on mine

Yeah, this happened to me once. When I troubleshooted it, the answer was to let the battery die out, then recharge it and try again. It worked for me. Also turning on HOLD then turning it off, sometimes cures temporary freezing.

yeah wait for it to run out of battery life i remember something like that happened to me and thats what i did.
That itself shouldnt happen though.
If you do end up contacting apple they will offer a replacement proggramme where they send you an ipod thats been returned from another person and fixed, this happened to my friend and they sent him 2 of these all of which broke within a week or so and he ended end getting a new one from them.
So watch out with apple.
Hope this helps
