Well I do remember me thinking the same way. I to am a aspiring actress. The first thing you want to do is involve yourself in plays( theater, local church plays or college performing art classes) It will help you gain confidence. And never give up on your dreams. YOUR in control of your on destiny. It also helps to read and gain resources on a acting career( you can go to your local library, or Barnes and noble) Opportunity will arise so many times for auditions, NONSTOP. But prepare yourself for the No's and soon the YES will get you. Good luck on finding the best agent for you

Have you ever DONE anything in theatre or acting? If not, how do you know you like it? Most likely, you've been caught up in the IDEA of being an actress. An actress takes tons of work, time and devotion with absolutely no promise (and hardly ANY chance) of getting real work. You have to love what you are doing and be FULLY comitted. If you still want to go with it, first try and get into an arts school. It'll teach you how to be a great actor and also give you exposure opportunities. Check your local theatre for auditions, and get some monologues under your belt.

Good Luck, and hey, if acting isn't the thing for you... oh well, right? But if it is, give ita ll you got! ;)

start taking classes..anywhere.
once you've done that audition for a play for the local theatre.
(i've been taking acting classes now for over a year and i'm auditioning for my first play on jan 21)
keep doing plays to build your resume
once you think you've gotten enough training move to NYC or LA, and join centralcasting.com to do extra work on tv shows, movies and commercials
then move to LA, get an agent and start acting.

its may seem like a long process but you need to really show that your commited to this carreer before agents with sign with you.

My understanding is that in the UK one needs to attend university or professional acting school to become an actress.

Proper grammar would be a start. You would like to be AN actress.
