Do you believe our media sources (cnn, fox news, msnbc etc.) give us the full and true story about the world or are they more interested in furthering political agendas, bashing politicians and reporting stories about celebrities?

Since the war on terror started we heard stories about Pakistan and other unstable countries in between stories about Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, and people tend to forget the stories about Pakistan. Now Ms. Bhutto is assassinated and it seems to be a dangerous situation regarding nukes and things like that.

Basically I want to know if the world is more dangerous than most Americans realize. I see other countries suffering from terror attacks and I know if that happened here it would be devastating.

Should Americans arm themselves in case something happens that sends America into a real unrest? Should we worry about these things? Are you worried? Should we think about saving as much money as possible? Should we all get passports?

Just respond.

The question you bring up here is scary, but true. Too many people dn't give a crap about anything except Brittney's little sister's pregnancy or Hannah Montana. It's up to us to stay informed by not relying on one place for our news and to spread what we know to those around us.

Simple surveys have shown that Americans are less informed about international affairs than Europeans. This probably won't surprise you.

Looking at the question, it seems like you have been shocked into the realisation that Pakistan is in a crisis. Pakistan has been in trouble for a while now, and this assassination is a climax to the story.

There is no point in learning more about the world if it just makes you more worried and scared. I'm sure the rest of the world will agree, the last thing we want is a more frightened American populace, or we might have another Iraq on our hands.

Fascinating question(s) but not enough space here to deal with everything you have touched. Basically you are correct. You guys have a MAJOR problem in the USA with your media. Lawful/acceptable dessent is taken as being un-American. In general the population in the USA are afraid to dessent. And you first paragraph says it all in my view "...or are they more interested in furthering political agendas, (...) and reporting stories about celebrities?" ---- Celebrities like the ones you have mentioned are SYMBOLS OF STUPIDITY put forward Ad nauseam on a daily basis, perhaps in the hope that we all become stupid like them.
As for TV entertainment I honestly find it very depressing -- completely devoided of any intellectul content.
Ameridans crave for more intellectual TV entertainment. They find the BBC an "intellectual channel". BBC-TV standard is the norm in any country in Europe and the sooner you guys start believeing in that the sooner you can improve yours. I say this with honesty and without any intention to bash our American brothers.

Am I anti-American ? Hell no. On the contrary. I am probably one of the few people on the planet who can say honestly I love the Anerican people. I have lived there and I have several American relatives (nephews and nieces)

In my opinion, the news media doesn't tell it all, or show it all. Too many edited film clips for me.

Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian crisis: Take a look at "pallywood." Draw your own concusions.

Sounds like you watch way to much News. I only watch the Spanish News stations. I don't speak a word of Spanish so the news never bothers me and the pictures are the same.

As *uninformed* as the rest of you around the world are about us. You read it and/or hear it and naively believe it, while we are here laughing at all of you. In the meantime, we keep counting....!!

EDIT:

BTW, it's completely unnecessary for you to tell us to get weapons. Most of us already have them, so anyone that tries anything will never know *from where* the shots will shower.

They are painfully unaware of the rest of the world. Their reliance on TV news adds greatly to that ignorance because those news outlets do not have the broad spread of foreign news bureaus that they had decades ago. The "ratings race" in this age of 24/7 news also produces "breaking news" which turns out to be "faking news". And the media outlets don't even have the courtesy of that character played by Gilda Radner on SNL who was always saying "Never mind" when she got it wrong.
Fortunately I have relied on English language short wave radio for over forty years as my chief source of news and information. Now, with my computer, I can check out several foreign dailies in English, along with the web site for the BBC and the Voice of America. "Streaming" permits me to listen to those short wave outlets with clarity and at my leisure, instead of being fixed to a certain broadcast time.
As a result, I have been aware of the situation in Pakistan for many years, as well as the existence and doings of Jemma Islamiyah in Southeast Asia. I was an aural witness to the birth of the violent Salafist movement of terrorists in North Africa decades ago. I listened to the broadcast of Bin Ladin's Fatwa (and its translation) declaring war on the U.S. and the crusader nations in August of 1998.
As far as the murder of Mrs. Bhutto. it may turn out to be the stupidest thing these terrorists have ever done. It is a "Harram" (an offense against the Koran) to murder a Muslim woman as a political act. Those in Al Queda and the other Hirabah groups know that. That's why you don't see them stepping up to admit guilt in this murder. Because it could turn out to be their death knell as far as gaining more supporters. Their use of "Takfir" (Muslim killing Muslim in the carrying out of Jihad) in Iraq has caused many of their fellow Sunni brethren to form groups against them.
My advice is to avoid the politicians and news people who want to draw a crowd and scare you. Especially if none of them can distinguish a Muslim from a melon. And share a laugh with me over a panel discussion on MSNBC some time ago when the female anchor turned to one of the panelists and said: "Would you care to speculate on those assumptions?".
