Just fine until they resort to name calling.

Fairly well if I'm not insulted. Just check my contact list. If I didn't, then that would very boring. Sometimes I might not seem so because I play devils advocate to the death (then realize that I took the other position). But as stubborn as I may sound on certain issues, I do consider other view points. I'm just not always vocal about it. Argue for the sake of arguing, think for the sake of thinking. Why not? Verbal battles are fun.

I find that people who have diametrically opposing views to mine on Yahoo answers are people who pretty much follow the conservative media talking points verbatim. They really haven't developed a real point of view. To do that they actually have to read the issues in depth, learn to think & analyze and critique. And, many of them consider God as part of their argument.
However, I enjoy a good argument if the opposition is well read and knows their history, political history, law and economics. I have absolutely no problem with people with opposing viewpoints then. It's the insufferable ignorance that I abhor. BTW, there are liberals that are ignorant as well. They are not out of the range of emotionally and politically irrational discourse just like their conservative Christian counterparts.

When they speak articulately and rationally, I listen to them more intently than those of a similar viewpoint. We learn most from our critics.
Not to do so would show ones lack of objectivity.
God gave you two ears and one mouth, it is best to stick to the ratio.

Depends on how they tolerate me, doesn't it? If they holler at me, tell me I'm going straight to hell or hate america or want US to fail, well, why should I treat them decently?

It depends on whether they try to shove it down my throat at every opportunity. Or if they just get holier than thou and say I'm stupid / not well read / don't think because I don't happen agree with them as Anne Coulter's Nemesis so brilliantly gave us an example of. Thank you.

If they argue their points RATIONALLY, and Calmly....Then I can tolerate just about ANY point of view... or at least I will listen to it and take it into consideration.
Otherwise... I have no tolerance for ignorance, loud mouthed morons, and those with no real point other than to spread a hateful message or to demonize anyone who disagrees with them.

My contact list has an almost even split of Dems and Cons...we have excellent retorts, and get along as fine as we can. I'm doing my best to turn them, though.......heeheehee
