Will it someday be possible to step on this thing, the thing scans you and you will teleport to a different location in the world? I think I seen this on Discovery channel or something and wondering if this will ever be possible?

Not with today's technology. There are more things to consider in this than meets the eye. When you throw a ball into the air, does it come straight back down? No, because the Earth will have rotated slightly, and even though it goes in a "straight" line, the Earth is not in the same place.

So if you could teleport, you'd have to figure out how to account for the Earth moving during the time it takes to teleport, and what the velocity is that you have versus where you are landing. For example, what happens if you are at the North Pole, where the Earth's spin really does nothing for you, and you decide to teleport to Equador, on the equator, where the Earth is moving at 465 m/s. So you go from 0m/s to 465 m/s Anyone think this might be a problem?

Reverse this issue, and go from the equator to the North Pole, what happens when you "land" with your current velocity of 465 m/s ??

No, No, and No.......
Too many quantum permutations. Never happen.
Sorry to squash your dreams.
For the record, we'll never travel backwards in time, either. Can only go forward at different rates in time, and even then only this fast and slower. Also, we'll never exceed light speed.
Some things we just gotta accept..............

Yeah, I hear the previous guy.....but.....
sure, flight seemed impossible. But it wasn't mathmatically impossible. Just danged hard. And we did it.
Sure, going to the moon seemed impossible. But it wasn't mathematically impossible. Just danged hard. And we did it.
Sure, cloning seemed impossible. But it wasn't mathematically impossible. just danged hard. And we did it.
The things I talked about, though, aren't danged hard. They are mathematically impossible and cannot be done. Ever.

More like Star Trek

Perhaps time will tell.
People used to think cloning was impossible.
Wouldn't get your hopes up though.
