Van Morrison wrote the song Gloria and recorded it with his group Them. It was released in 1964. Patti Smith recorded a version of the Morrison song on her 1975 album release, Horses. Laura Branigan had a 1982 hit with a song called Gloria (not the Morrison song) Both versions on YouTube.
