Whatever it is you are spraying on your fingers, don't do it so much.

All of the above, plus, if you injure your finger, wait 'til it has completely healed before you play again. I used to play basket ball in high school and I broke 2 of my fingers. I made the mistake of going back to playing before my finger had completely healed and I broke htme again (I did this about 3 times before I learned) and now my fingers are all messed up.
It might mean you have to wait it out for 4-6 weeks, depending on the severity of the injury, though.

Its a common thing to sprain your fingers while playing...i would wait a while before playing because you dont want to hurt it anymore because then your doctor will tell you to stop playing!! Also to prevent it from happening spread ur hands out wide while catching the ball...

yeah, it sounds silly but all you need to do is open your hands as wide as you can get them when the ball is coming your way. i used to jam my finger all the time in basketball, once i focused on this it didnt happen anymore.
