I used to be a die hard wrestling fan (WWF b/f the change to WWE). I still watch occasionally. I know that most everything is staged but the actual blood (although they cut themselves) and the wrestling in the ring is fake or staged. How come then do wrestlers need steroids? There really isn't a need for it, is there? I saw on the news a while back something about pro wrestling and steroids and this question struck me.

this is simple to answer. they take steroids for a few reasons... steroids help them recover faster which makes life a little easier when you have to wrestle 300 lbs guys 5-7 days a week. also the fact they have to lift up guys who weigh 250-350lbs and toss them about the ring requires much strength. In my opinion wrestlers shouldn't be put down. their job is very very physically demanding. especially the matches that last 30 minutes plus? that's why they are on steroids and pain pills all the time because if they weren't then they wouldn't be able to keep up.

the wrestling is very athletic but yes it is fake to a degree. yes they really fall and yes they really hit the mat or floor. that is the danger. the part that is faked is the story-lines and the blood. When a guy is supposed to bleed they make a "safe" cut above the eye or cheek or nose etc, so the blood is real but the thing is the fake just how "hurt" the wrestler really is. Everything is set up to get better ratings. For example, take the fake McMahon limo death right before the all too real Benoit family death. McMahon was to die in the storyline but he showed up very much alive to publicly mourn Benoit.

Because steroids helps wrestlers lift a guy off his feet easier or makes the small guy fly farther and higher. Many ppl know that this show is rigged, but its not a teamwork. Every wrestler is trying to outperform one another..the best performers end up getting title shots...more fame..more money.

You gain fans if your body looks better , if you go out looking like an old man with a beer belly , and try to look like a tough guy , you will be laughed at . I totally agree with you though , a lot of the moves they do don't even require strength at all just cooperation from your opponent .

Well. they have to look huge from a distance, so even the people in the back will think they look huge, so even though the sport is choreographed, the bigger and stronger they are, the less likely they will be seriously injured. Even though they appear to be angry at each other, most of these guys are really freinds who are just putting on a show.

Yes wrestling is fake some of the scenes are scripted even the matches, but I still enjoy watching it. They use steriods because they want to look more buffed for the fans.

To achieve the look that Vince is looking for. The look of such main-eventers as John Cena, Batista, Lashley etc... Vince loves big guys, and loves to push them.

Wrestling is "fake" in the sense that the outcome is predetermined.

Those guys still need to be in superb physical conditioning

The wrestlers want to have large, bulky muscles so they LOOK the part they are playing. They have to be overly large these days. (Plus they do have to be strong to do some of the maneuvers they perform.)
