OK so I just found out that my mortgage company forced place insurance on me and now are trying to extort the money out of me. How do I prove to them that I had insurance at the time and get out of not having to pay for this insurance now. Is it just a matter of showing them that I had insurance at the time and that it did not lapse and they then have to take it off. Or will I still be charged for this???

It happens to me all the time, with various investment mortgages. Simply call your insurance company and have them forward proof of coverage to the mortgage lender. They will reverse the charges. It's amazing how those mortgage firms can lose track of your insurance certificates.

If you already had insurance, show them the policy. But are you talking homeowner's insurance or flood insurance? - they are different.

Yes, give them the documentation. Be prepared for a fight. They will probably not want to refund your money so you might need to hire a lawyer to get it straightened out.
Good luck.
