Then all current records would need an asterisk. Like an undefeted season because when the dolphins did it in 72 there were less games in a year. Think what some of footballs greatest from the 60's and 70's would have put up for numbers if they played a 16 game season. Kickers don't have an asterisk if they break records, and they do it with a different ball now. Lots of differences. No difference than if Rice was out a couple games for injury.

No, there won't be an asterisk--that's stupid. The season is what it is and the records are what they are. It's pretty amazing that Rice set the record in 12 games, but not relevant. Of course knowledgeable fans will remember the circumstances, and I don't think anybody is about the argue that Moss is passing Rice as the greatest WR of all time. I think Moss has got himself back on track for Canton, but I don't think he'll ever do enough to catch Jerry Rice. And I'm a Pats fan.

There is no reason to put an asterisk because anyone who brings up the record will make it a priority to point out the differance in season games played to set the record.
The record will be big news for awhile, and after a few years when someone else threatens to break it, they can compare games played to get it with Moss.

No Jerry Rice will have the record for average touchdowns per game played and Randy Moss will have the single season record.

Can we please stop this asterisk thing? Every since the steroids scandal in Baseball, people have been wanting to put asterisks next to any and everything. Like I said before, if you do that you will have to go back through the entire record book and put an asterisk next to anything slightly different.

No.
If they put an * to Randy, put it also to everybody who passed Unitas and Jim Brown's numbers, because these 2 great players played 12 and 14-game seasons.
Rice is the only player that you can say it was the best at his position. There are debates at the rest of the positions, except at WR.

No, because the season was strike shortened. Not to mention, jerry had 17 other years to pad the record.

No. Randy Moss (aside from his antics) is playing at his best ...like he did when he was with Minnesota. (Actually, he's playing better at New England than he did in Minnesota).
Anyway...no. He deserves the recognition players get when they achieve new milestones.

Interesting point. I think there should be an asterisk next to Rice's name, indicating that it would likely have been higher.
