Do you think the owners or the rottweiller that savaged and killed the 1yr old baby ever said " It's not the dog it's the owners' personally i wonder how many humans have to be savaged before dogs are controlled. Its rediculous.

joe b...; being bitten is one thing, having a heavy strong animal like a rott, staff pitbull etc savaging you and having to wait until it decides it is finished until you can get to a hospital ,i can assure that if a cocker spaniel wants to fight me then i'll give it my all, if a rottweiller attacks me i'm not going to be able to stop it.

that's terrible, I'm glad to see the dogs been destroyed. I'm an adult and I have been the subject of a dog attack. I'm here to tell the tale, but it is a very harrowing experience.

When will people learn that dogs and small children do not mix! And that children should not be left unattended with ANY dog, no matter how small the dog, they can kill just as easily as a large dog.

Now I just know the thumbs down brigade are gonna love this but it has to be said. The parents of children should be more responsible where there are dogs in the family, they need to be teaching their kids to respect animals. Too often a child teases the family dog, then the world is up in arms when the dog does what comes naturally...defend itsself!

The best way is to keep dogs and kids apart, but if this is not possible, a responsible adult should be there AT ALL TIMES to protect the children from the dog and vice versa.

I own one and had 2. I had to get rid of one. She was docile and great as a puppy and when she got to be about 1 & 1/2 she got agressive. She and my older one had always played and got along well and snap...She attacked my other one. I tryed keeping them away from one another and she lept through a screen door and did it again and almost killed her. They were not trained to fight or anything and both had been through training. They really are iffy dogs. I'm very carefull with my girl. She has never done anything but if strangers or cable guys or anyone not around her all the time comes in she's put into her crate. I'm reading others answers and she wasn't abused or neglected in any way. I have 2 acres of land, she had plenty of exercise and someone is always home. My animals are never alone for more than a few hours.

For the person that said who heard of a lab that would kill ? I owned a lab that would , and did bite kids. Does anyone know the number one bite dog is the cocker. What I am hearing you say is it ok to bite but not kill. I am basesing that on your commit about the yorkie. I own a rottie, a border and a small white dog. The rottie is by far the sweetes ,and the last one to bite. If you want to band the dogs that could kill. You are also talking about saint, great danes, lab , sheep dogs,Will you better kill them all. What about cats? Cats do bite, and scrach. A cat scrach or bite can put you in the hospital.

who can ever predict how/when a dog will turn. a baby will never have a chance against a big dog. I have 11 month old grand-daughter and would want to kill the owner, for various reasons mainly out of devastation and grief. my heart goes out to the 7 year old who will have to live with the consequences, what a thing to carry through life ....... my sis has a tiny miniature yorkie who goes for people, my grand-daughter could still be harmed by a tiny pooch. so the size is not always the problem....

I think u misread what i'm saying. ALL dogs have the potential to harm or kill. i DO NOT defend dangerous dogs. I never said a yorkie would kill... i see so many young people "parading their fighters", the laws should be much stricter.

I felt sick yet again when I heard about this. Like you said how many more people, mainly young helpless children have got to die before something is done. I think people should be vetted before they are aloud to have dogs like these. And I certainly don't think that they should be pets they are more guard dogs than anything else. And if you have one of these dogs they should be musselled when around the general public and big warning signs on their property to let people know that they have one of these dogs guarding their property. Other than that they should be an out right ban on them and hugh hugh fines for anyone found to have one of these dogs without the correct paperwork.

Maybe they should think about controlling these dogs/owners.. the way they control parking in london for instance .... or try to control drink driving.... or smoking

It should be a punishable offence for your OWN dog to savage your kid... you're right it is ridiculous

dR bad
Maybe instead of save the whale... we should have a save our toddlers/kids campaign

I feel so sorry for the little girls family

think of the poor 7 year old girl that the baby was snatched off of by the dog, think of the grief she is going through, she probably thinks it was her fault.

Steve ~ Just read this morning that there is no sign of them getting banned!! It is evident that the goverment regard the need to have these beasts as pets more important than the lifes of innocent children!

i don't think that its so much the dogs fault as the owners for a) leaving it to itself if it was a vicious dog so not taking the necessary precautions or b)the owners fault for not treating it probably as many dogs become vicious as a result of the treatment from their owners

so you can't so much control the dog's behaviour as control its actions by teaching it as you have to remember dogs are naturally wild animals so still have their instincts which lead to them biting or becoming aggressive
