Yes to the first and no to the second. My best guess (and barring any actual proof on extraterrestrial origin, it can only be a guess) is that Earth itself is under a sort of "Prime Directive" -- that rule in the Star Trek series which prevents interference in another race's social and technological progress as a race.

Those who say the government's covering it up want to have their cake and eat it too; either the government's full of congenital idiots or mad scientist geniuses. With any organization, the extremes in both directions will be whittled away and will tend to achieve equilibrium as life itself does, at the point of least resistance and moderation.

Even an advanced society as we imagine an extraterrestrial one would be would have to achieve this and with it the ennui that seeking out other us'es (e.g. other races) is a futile endeavor. Human beings may be the only ones who are seeking intelligent life off our own planet; depending how you define "intelligence" and "life", we may have already found it.

We don't and right no will not. the government used intelagent life to cover up Area 51. Area 51 is just a top secret air base and they use it for new plains and when the find eniemy or outside technology. but the government did not want people to know so they used it to scare them away. but it did not work and there had been people that have gone up and vidoe taped area 51 and now thanks to the history channal the world knows about it. (or at least I do). it is just a bunch of hangers with a small office and a big space for plain helecopters and anything that flys. now people are wondering about the intelegent life thing because there have been sightings os space ships ect. but No true profof other then one videotape that is not perclamed true or faulse. these two counter each other so right now there is no answer.

I don't know how many ... :D but seriously i can't just believe we are alone in the universe , plus many discoveries have been made .... not to mention theories.
I can't tell that some aliens visited us but i still believe there are other races on other planets on other galaxies.
Anyways ... about this whole UFO thing ... i believe that the government is hiding something ... especeally in the area 51.
UFO- unidentified flying object ... just think unidentified doesn't really mean it's not from EARTH.

It seems reasonable to me that in the vastness of the universe there could be other life forms. Earth lies on the fringe of a rather small galaxy. As of yet, I have not seen scientific evidence that supports the existence of alien life forms. It is hard to disprove a conspiracy theory.

I believe!

but I don't believe they've been to earth and I don't believe they are "monitoring" us

i don't think we'd hide it.... that **** would leak globally and almost instantly. esp with the internet.

The amount of information we could gain simply knowing life existed somewhere else would be like the forest fires in California buringing thought the world of science and religion.....
the race would be on and a new market would open allowing the whole world to invest in building colony ships to get to that planet.

I bet we'd start new wars upon its discovery.
and the US government wouldn't be able to silence the sound of weapons.

If you were on another world and you had the capability of travelling the vast distances to Earth, why would you come here if the government was going to cover it up and noone would get to know how clever you were?

I've always held a strong personal belief that there must be other life out there... Somewhere.
With 200 billion stars in our galaxy alone, and there being at LEAST 200 billion other galaxies out there (each with its OWN 200 billion- or- so stars)...
The odds for life are pretty good.

It's just a dream that we'll find any in our lifetimes though...
That's what I believe... That's all...
