Like any other fashion violations, this is personal. YOu decide - and then you bear the consequences.
I have been known to wear polka dots with tie-dye, and I still get razzed about it.
If you like the way it looks, go ahead. And then post a pic, OK? :o)

You CAN wear stripes and plaid...if you're a golfer.

Personally I totally wear stripes, plaids, and florals together, if they are matching in color and proportion.
