When I put in a disk, the computer doesn't acknowledge that it's there. Possible causes? Solutions? thanks :]

Hi. Two different devices? That is unusual. Try going into 'Control panel' and uninstall the devices. Reboot and see if Windows detects them. Double check the data cables and the power cables. Try them in a friends machine.

Usually the lense or the disk itself gets smudged, but if the drive is indeed broke try hooking up a usb drive to your pc.

If they don't show up, check and see if they are unplugged. Sometimes vibration works them loose. Check both the power plugs and the long narrow information plugs.

maybe your "driver" is missing for some reason. go to the manufacturers website and download and install the new drivers.
