Pay your bills, you owe them and it is the right thing to do. If you are disabled so you can't work then you may need to file bankruptcy.

bankruptcy laws are probably different from state to state. but why is it costing you 20,000? wow!! Normally, you find a bankruptcy lawyer. They cost around 1400 in illinois you take classes on how to manage your money. And that should be your total cost. The side effects are that your credit score will be crappy for awhile.

It will have a negative impact on your credit, but if your credit is already bad, you don't have much to lose, and you will improve your debt to income ratio. If you can afford to pay something you may want to look into negotiating the debt.

Think just what will happen to your credit.
If you let everything be reposessed, it stays with you for only 3-7 years.
If you file bankruptcy, it is there for as long as you live.
Take it from a sucker who did it 15 years ago and I still suffer turn downs with otherwise good credit!

Every thing depends on your income and what you owe. Your out going expences etc. Since no one here know your personal finances only you could be the judge for the BKing or not.

Contact a debt consolidation service, they will help you decide if you really need to file bankruptcy or if you can work with your debt and income.
