Hi,
You should compare hardware and price, and also operating system and software.
Right now Dell and Apple offer comparable hardware at about the same price. Apple's hardware runs Windows and Mac OS, and even runs Vista slightly faster than Dell does.
Because the Apple Mac comes with MacOSX, which I think is a generation ahead of Vista, I give Apple the edge. You can run Windows and MacOS at the same time and not sacrifice performance or software. You can also run LINUX if you are a geek.
Dells only run Microsoft Windows or LINUX, but not Leopard, so they are deficient. Considering they don't give you a price break for this deficiency I'd go with the the Mac.
