I'm stuck at a hotel outside of Houston so I'm wondering how close the beach or a river is, I wanted to check out the ports too so if anyone could give me some directions, or a site and a guess at how long it'd take to get there then that'd rock, bye!

"Outside of Houston" is quite an arc. Are you north, east, west, or south of Houston. That would help.

I don't think you want to go to the beach today. It is currently 50 and very windy here in Houston. It will be colder and windier in Galveston. My wife and I were thinking of going, but changed our minds when we saw the weather report.

There is a cool little port tour-- a boat cruises the ship channel . check out port of Houston .com-- Or take a little time, drive to Galveston and ride the ferry over to Bolivar and check out Crystal Beach !!!

galveston island is 70 miles from houston and all along the island there is public beaches you can walk. if you can be a little more specific i can answer better. but check at your hotel if the kemah boardwalk is nearby. they have shopping a lunch and dinner cruise boat, and an amusement park. depending on where you are this two may be the closest most amusing places to go.
