consider "enemies," and used the big stick of US military power but also actually give them a chance to talk about our mutual long-term goals etc. in a respectful man-to-man (or woman?) way.

You never know what good might come from even just one of these meetings, worst case we just blow the crap out of them like we would anyway.

Peace might finally reign in this world when the US meet with leaders of countries that are against the US.

I think it's one of the better political ideas I've heard.
Think about day-to-day life. Let's say your hear a rumor somehow that your spouse/significant other is cheating on you. Do you up and leave and make their life hell while you're at it, even though it could be just a rumor? Or do you confront them about it?
Every intelligent person knows that communication is one of the most important tools humans possess. Not communication does not have any advantages. Communicating has few disadvantages, if any. Words are more powerful than weapons sometimes.
Like Confucius said, "Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I'll remember. Involve me and I'll understand."
We should involve everyone we are dealing with so they understand what problems we have with them--and so they understand the possible consequences of their actions.

You have to look at the people you are talking about. The are religious fanatics. Their is no reasoning or debate with. It is their way or death. Not allot of negotiating room there.

Kim Jong-IL is the only exception and he is just buttfuck crazy.
