Hi, I'm a 15year old guy(yes I know my av's a girl and that's because I'm a m2f transgender living as a guy for now but that isn't important) and I'm a huge fan of Grand Theft Auto(practically the only masculine thing I'm into) and have got every game so far accept GTA London and GTA IV and I can't wait until I have the set. Now there's this store in town called Playtime Multimedia and I'm a regular customer there and all the staff there know me really well and know what games my Mum allows me to have. Now really I should have a parent or guardian come in with me when getting a game like GTA as it is 18 rated and I'm 15 but at this store seen as they know me so well they let me have what ever game I want and the only rule they follow is that when I'm trading in they won't give me cash for my own safety without a parent or guardian and I only can trade for other games.
Is it illegal this store selling me 18 rated games without a parent or guardian as I'm only 15years old?
Just to say I'm from the UK.

For the last idiot who answered saying that I'm good at breaking the law and that, that's a lie as I'm a very law obiding person and all what jails gonna do is ruin my whole life so I stick to the law to avoid it as I'm doing well at my exams. the only law I found out I've been breaking is this one but if you seen what the government do to get some things in gaming rated 18 you'd be disgusted, I mean before gaming magazines were rated 18 they were as clean as a brand new car but as soon as the government said they wanted them rated 18 there was porn on on pratically every page and I find that disgusting and the stores that sell them seem to agree so carry on selling as if there wasn't an age restriction on gaming magazines, it ain't just this store selling under age, there are tonnes.

What the government do when it comes to gaming should be made illegal its self, okay rate games 18 and that but gaming magazines, they're forcing the producers to put porn in them just so they can rate them 18.

I only put my gender preference because I wrote that i was a 15year old guy so I sort I thought I needed to explain why my av is a girl.

the rating is a warning as far as i know.....but they really shouldn't do it morally unless your mother has given store list of titles permissible.

The ratings are suppose to be in effect so that children's parents know what the game contains, if its not approprate for certin ages, if it has nudity, violence and stuff. You are suppose to have a parent/guardian with you, but i think thats only a recomidation. They can refuse to sell them to you, but its not illegal for them to sell it to you without supervision.
And I really dont think it would be an influence to them of your gender or preference. They are there to make money, regardless if you are buying James Bond or Tetris...

Yes it is illegal and you know shouldn't accept these games as you're only 15. In my opinion both the shop owner and you are both in the wrong. You won't get in trouble though, only the shopkeeper, if he's found out and that's wouldn't be fair as you know it's illegal for you to accept these games.

I think, yes, it's technically illegal. There are age restrictions on things like cigarettes and alcohol, or movies. Though it's not legal, I don't imagine the penalty would be that severe - they might get a warning or pay a fine. They might also be able to argue that - since you've come in with your mum - they know that you have her consent already.

Yes, that's what the 18 label is for.
BTW, they probably know that you use the computer in a supervised environment. But it's not on the UK's police TOP 10 list of offenses to be dealing with right now, other things like car crime and knifing are far more important.
BTW (2), was it really necessary to bring your sexuality into the question?

Well some stores are like that. Maybe they just aren't strict or maybe they just don't follow the rules. Yes it's against the law but i wouldn't care if i were you.
