I'm from the Midwest and I'm thinking of moving to the South because I'm tired of the cold winters here. What are the best places to live in the South, in terms of job opportunities, affordable housing, food, people, atmospehere, things to do and see, though I'm not into the bar/club scene. I've visited the south many times but would like to hear from people who actually live there. What would you tell a northerner about the south? Feel free to brag, lol!!

I am from Georgia and love, love, love it! It's beautiful here and you can live in a lot of different areas (mountains, beach, plains, urban). You can live in a really tiny town or Atlanta, the largest city in the South. There is tons to do in Georgia also. Lots of outdoor activities, great sports franchies (even though the Falcons suck this year), tons of history, lots of cultural activities, amazing shopping, etc. It's pretty easy to find a good job here, the cost of living is low. Housing is very reasonable. There is some of the most amazing food you'll ever put in your mouth (all over the state!) We are famous for our Coca-Cola and Chick-fil-a, after all! I know you said you're not big into the bar/club scene, even though we definitely have it in abudance. The people here in Georgia are second to none. So sweet, genuine and fun. Everyone is really easy going and friendly. There are really so many great things about Georgia! We'd love for you to put Georgia on your mind. :)

Tennessee is where I grew up, but I've been in Texas for 35 years. Okay I will brag a little bit. I can tell I'm home when I ride down the roads and everyone is sitting on their porches and they wave at you. The sweet part about it is they really care about how you're doing. When I go over a hill and look down in the valley it takes my breath away every time. Tennessee is just HOME.

I would say Winston-Salem, Asheville or Wilmington, in North Carolina or Charleston in South Carolina. All have great weather, great people, good economies and the cost of living is very affordable!
