t.v. itself is a bigger problem than the half naked women on it. i personally like to look at hot looking half naked women, or fully naked for that manner, but i refuse to turn a television on because i just sit there watching a screen, thinking the same things everyone watching the program is thinking, like some kind of zombie. if your problem is the media, perhaps you should "strip the wire, wrap it arround a metal spike and plug it in to the wall again so you can watch it explode", as steven king once put it.

Hi Lioness, I tried to find "objectified" and "objectification" in the dictionary and no joy. Well, I'm not exactly sure I understand your queston, but think I might have an idea. Anyway, have you ever heard of the "bell curve"? It's a curve that is shaped like a bell and does a good job of representing statistics. As for beauty, at one end of the curve we have the least attractive and at the other end the most. The same would be true for income ... poorest on one side and richest on the other. In the middle of the bell we have all the average folks. I think what you're saying is true, but just simply a fact of life. We have the full spectrum for both genders. As for why guys don't protest ... I guess they realize that it's just the way things are and protests are unlikely to change anything. Hope this helps!

I would not disagree with you at all. I would only add that we are all objectified by the media and society. All of us women, men and children are open to objectification if there is a buck to be made by it. I will grant you that women probably are more often objectified, because there is more money to be made by their objectification. But David Beckham in his Armani underwear is just an example of men being put in the same sales bin. I think the sad message is that all of us are viewed by the powers that be as either someone to consume or something to be consumed.

Are MEN being objectified by the media and society? We've seen the commercials. Tall, dark and handsome. A financial success with a 'hot car'. Self-confident. In control. Athletic and muscular. Endowed with 'big' sexual equipment. Sensitive and kind. A perfect lover. Never makes a mistake or bad decision. Admired by all.
Some men and women are contributing to this problem. Society clearly expects women to treat men as financial, sexual, 'perfect' objects.
Best wishes.

I can agree as well as disagree with you. First, can agree that yes, women are "objectified" in the media not only because of men, but because women openly celebrate the women who are objectifying themselves. Second, Perverts have no right to attack women for any reason, whether they're walking down the street naked, OR if they're covered in head to toe in clothing. So no, I DON'T believe that the newly objectified women of our age make perverts lash out at us, perverts have always existed (even when marketing was as innocent as can be). Unfortunately, the internet is the worst source of perversion.

yes, this is definitely true. mens' strong sexual attraction to women is exploited big time in the media.
and yes, a lot of women are contributing to this problem by accepting that their value lies in how "hot" they are. as much as women talk the talk about how "women aren't objects" and "i want people to value my mind, not my body", they don't walk the walk. most women value their physical attractiveness more than any other quality they have. why? because they want to impress the cute guys. sure women don't want to be objectified and would like to treated like individuals, but i think that getting attention from the cute guy in their class or their sexy co-worker is more important.
the same is true for men. men would do whatever it takes to impress the cute girls. but since women have been known to be less visual than men, that hasn't had as much to do with looks as status and other qualities. but that seems to be changing. good looks are becoming more and more important.

Fitness freak, you say that females are more beautiful than males. That's only true for males. However, for those of us who are female, we are not really interested in seeing scantily clad females and we would much rather see scantily clad males. The producers of these commercials and music videos seem to forget that half of the viewers really don't find these women attractive at all and are more interested in seeing the product itself instead of distractions like these.

Men are more visually orientated with sex than women, and the advertisers know this.
This is not objectification, it is just rolling with the basic differences between men and women.
This "object" model is just a meaningless term that the feminists have used ..... what does it mean anyway?
Why is a scantily clad women an object? ..... what does it mean to say that .... nothing !

Well I know I've seen countless women respond with "shut up, stop complaining, get over it" to any questions that men have here, no matter how legitimate their question may or may not be. So...
Shut up. Stop complaining. GET OVER IT.
There. Now we have equality.
