I'm writing a story in which an Irish settlement is attacked by English soldiers at some point in medieval history. I would like the story to be as historically accurate as possible, does anyone know a point in medieval history in which this may have occurred and why?

Prince John and his Norman buddies invaded Ireland from England in the late 1100's, but they were Normans, not actually English at all ,though John was prince of England (later to become king), and were still happily oppressing the native English with their high taxes and harsh forest laws.

I'm not sure how late in time your 'medieval history' will be set, but this is worth a look at:- http://www.computer-2tr.com/Ireland/links/plantations.html
