yes, the old woman at the beginning of the movie was one of the real survivors, and they based the story of the movie on her experiences, after they interviewed her and everything.
but for the movie they obviously dramatised it more, to make it more entertaining.

The Titanic was a real ship, it really hit an iceberg and sank, and half the passengers really perished in the frigid waters because of the lack of lifeboats. What very little remains is deteriorating on the ocean floor.

As for the drama Rose, Jack, and the rest of the characters presented in the movie, I doubt they were real and but I don't know for sure.

the old woman was rose in an old form, she was telling her story of the voyage. rose and jack did not exist.

but most of the other characters did, the crew did, molly brown did etc etc.... the only people who didnt are the main characters and their family members.

but yes the titanic was real, yes it hit an iceberg, yes it sank....thousands of people died. there is now only 1 remaining surviour called millvena dean, her dad died on the titanic.

Everything except for the people (Non-Crew and a few other characters are exceptions) was portrayed accurately and fairly truthfully.

The old lady was just for entertainment purposes...to make the movie more appealing.
