Working with the public , I have an opportunity to brighten so many people's day that I feel it to be more of a purpose than a job. I tell almost every child wearing glasses that they look great on them, and I thank every Veteran and active member of the armed service for their sacrifice. (I include that if it were not for them I could be speaking German or Japanese right now.) I see mainly WW2 Vets, as I live in central Florida, and I am saddened to report that most of them seem shocked to hear it, as they say that no one had ever thanked them before. One man asked me if I knew who the real heroes of WW2 were. I said I thought it was the ones who never made it home. He told me it was the American people because they welcomed them home and gave them parades and all sorts of support. Only one person has had that response and I have talked to hundreds and hundreds of Veterans. I think about someone having the worst day of their life, and just as they crawl into bed and think, "My day was crappy, but that young lady told me my hair looked great and her smile seemed to prove that." It feels great to make someone else's day, doesn't it?

I'm ever the class clown, lastnight I went via ambulance to the ER- heart attack- in the ambulance I felt for certain I was going to die- I could see all going on around me and the panicked look on the attendings faces too- one was really very cute( hey I wasn't dead yet) so I quietly looked over at him took his hand and said "If I live will you go out with me?"They all cracked a smile and laugh. I lived, as you can see, but alas he was married... I will go out of this world the way I live in it- joking and laughing, and that, for me, is appropriate.
