I've not got a DAB because most reports are bad, seems to be dishonestly hyped up to high heaven by the BBC. I find that my FM tranny works best. If I need a digital BBC channel - like Radio7 - I get it on my freeview TV.

You know, I recall all the same kind of hype when the wireless switched from AM (amplitude modulation) to FM (frequency modulation). We were all promised better reception with FM but it wasn't always so.

to be honest i can not understand all the hype over it.
i for one think my 1980's boom box sounds far better on the radio side then my dab radio.

my dab radio for no reason at all just goes onto scan, the set was returned to the shop and the replacement still does this.

i got a second dab radio and that too just scans from time to time.

in time yes they will be worth the cash i paid but too many faults right now,but then these are new and will have teething problems.

if you buy one with two speakers then the price starts to go up a bit i am not willing to pay that now until the bugs in dab have gone.

regards x Kitti x

PS i first bought one because i did not want to be left behind

On balance I think it is worth it. I enjoy classical music and want to hear the full range of the orchestral instruments. I find DAB does have the advantage in superior AF quality. Also where I live I seem to pick up local stations on DAB just as easily as on FM. Another advantage of the DAB set I have is that it has a "pause" facility. If for example I am in the middle of some very interesting radio programme and do not want to miss anything, and all of a sudden the phone rings or some unwelcome person calls at the front door who I need to get rid of , I just press the "pause" button, and then when interruption has been disposed of , can carry on listening at precisely the point I left off, even if it was 30 minutes or more ago You can not do that with FM or AM (unless of course you have a built in cassette recorder and actually start it up on "record" at that moment). Although with DAB you do not have as good a range from transmitter, my Roberts DAB radio has the option of changing to FM when the need arises. For example before driving back from the south coast to Reading, I can change to FM just to get the traffic reports from Radio Berkshire from 50 or 60 miles away on FM, which is too far away for DAB to be able to pick up. But I can not change it to AM if I want longer range reception.

I have two DAB radios; the newer one has two speakers
and both give me superb sound quality and reception. These radios also allow me to listen to stations such as BBC Radio 7 and One Word, which only transmit a digital signal. I think the market is being flooded now with some less than brilliant products. I have found the 'Pure Evoke' DAB radios to be of excellent quality.

The quality is good, so long as the reception is good. I find that I end up listening to stations just because its the one I can get a good reception on. If I have Radio 2 on, I cant walk around the kitchen without loosing the reception. Ive had a Heavy Rock station on for the past two days and its doing my brain in.

The sound quality is just the same as a good VHF tuner on your Hifi.
It may be digital, but if it is played on a little tranny with cheap electronics and speakers it will not sound great despite any sort of hype bigging it up.

I've got two one as a clock radio and one as the tuner in my hifi and they are fantastic. Had an external aerial put up for my hifi one as I don't like pieces of wire on the wall. Reception and choice of stations is brilliant. My clock radio came with only one speaker but I bought an additional one to plug in and before I bought my tuner I used to use it with my amp.

Ive got one. i can get one station on DAB. reception is good, but the control for the sound doesnt have anything inbetween very quiet and too loud. Theres no nice bedtime type volume on it. Overall my lil transistor in the kitchen is better.

I wouldn't be without my DAB now. The sound quality is so much better, none of the hiss with an ordinary radio.

I currently don't have one but I have seen one swicthed on, it is amazing, it is actually like a CD, just being able to switch to another station with the touch of a button and the signal is so strong which leads to crackle-free radio.
