Faux fur is the only fur I'd wear as well.

I'm not referring to hunters.. Most hunters I know eat the meat and keep the deer skin/head or other animal parts for a trophy.. I don't have a problem with hunters who respect wildlife.

Duchess, there are alternatives to every piece of clothing. Have you seen how baby seals are slaughtered, minks are bred on farms and are left with injuries until they're skinned alive? That's' not dog and cat fur but the animals still go through pain.

For those of you who believe people don't wear cat or dog fur.. Take a look at China's cat and dog fur trade videos on YouTube.

Nora G, you're right. I read an article that said most fur owners who found out the treatment of animals gave the fur away to homeless people for warmth.

Stan D, the videos on YouTube show graphic footage of the animals being skinned alive.. and it shows them still alive even without their skin.

I don't approve of the way animals are treated that are slaughtered for food, but I have to eat just like everyone else. We've come a long way since the stoneage and there are many alternatives to the fur trade.

Country Girl, to be perfectly honest with you,
This question has gotten way off track.
It's jumping and bouncing around all over the place.
Now I'm no English Professor, but your original
query went a little something like this: "What do
you think about people who own animals but
wear fur?" Correct me if I'm wrong; but doesn't this
ask for the answerer's opinion (thoughts) on the subject
matter and not necessarily and accurate resolution
to this critical dilemma?
If I may interject my opinion and answer only the question as it is posted before me, then I'd have to comment that my
thoughts on people who own animals but wear fur are obviously not concerned nor affiliated with any Animals'
Rights Organizations or what have you?
And there are people associated with Animals' Rights Groups who don't wear fur yet still own animals.
Isn't owning animals the equivalence of owning slaves?
Just an analysis.
If people are going to equate animals to the same level
as humans..and in many cases elevate animals higher than human-beings, then they need to consider what actually owning one might equate to.
Oh, but there's a loophole to that? They consider it to be
adopting rather than actually owning the animal(s). To each their own. I say: to-may-toes; you say: to-mah-toes.
In other words, adoption still means: to own.
I could delve a lot deeper into this conversation but I
feel that it's time to move on to the next subject. I'll give
you a star on originality and on picking a subject matter
that stirs a lot of mixed reactions. You should run for
politics someday. I'd hate to be your opponent.
Love, peace and happiness always.

Well, there are any number of ways to look at this.
When I was growing up we primarily ate 'off the land'. Wild game. But we used as much of the animal as was possible. Not just to be frugal, but to honor the life that was taken to help lengthen our own. We had the hides cured and made into articles of clothing. They weren't fashion statements.

I no longer eat meat. I don't like the way we treat our food. I am unable to hunt and wouldn't do so now anyway. I get plenty of nourishment from a complete vegetarian diet with some fish.

Wearing fur is not the sin. Not respecting the entire life cycle and spirit of the animal it came from is. And it's also what is wrong with our food.

I have a rabbit skin hat and mittens. I own 3 dogs, 3 rats, a tarantula and a madagascar hissing cockroach. The rabbit skins were from rabbits that I hunted, skinned and ate. I also have several coyote hides that I am deciding what to make out of them. If you eat steak, do you know the cows are not dead when they are gutted? They are merely knocked unconscious, put on a hook and drug up through a blade, allowing the entrails to fall back on to the floor.
And do you believe everything you see on youtube?

I think real fur is not the way to go as a way of staying warm or fashionable. I don't have a problem with using the skin of animals legally hunted to make stuff.

I think I am wonderful,I am one of those,I own a beautiful rabbit fur coat with a fox collar, its probably older than you are,its in excellent condition and 35 years old,way before people got concerned about stupid things, like what I am wearing!I also own leather boots and shoes and gloves, none of that cheap stuff for me,bet you are the same way about your clothes! And Yes,I own three dogs and one cat they are FAMILY.I would not eat them,or wear them or do something really stupid and get them stuffed.!!Happy New Year!

Well more than likely a person who own a pet and wears fur won't be wearing the same type of animal they own. Most luxury furs are mink and tiger fur, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to own those as pets!!
P.S. I don't wear fur, I think it's tacky!!

Do you eat chicken and/or beef?

Chicken ranchers are especially cruel,,,
They're started off being basically starved to death, and then they are suddenly fattened up by throwing the feed to them.

They're kept in a cage with barely enough room to move, shipped off in a truck, to sit for hours in the hot sun outside the processing plant before being "processed".

Based upon your arguement, you shouldn't be eating chicken or beef since they are most certainly the "victims" of cruelty.

I think anybody who wears fur is cruel! I get really mad and I usually say something about how cruel fur is to whoever I am with so that the person wearing the fur will hear me...I feel so bad for those poor animals who die for a fashion statement...an ugly one at that.

I don't wear fur, but if I did it wouldn't be dog or cat fur. And minks are just fuzzy rats bread for the purpose of fur. Wearing them is no worse than wearing leather. Are you ready to give up your shoes?
