FIRST THINGS FIRST - Check what your insurance will be on a sportbike, because for younger riders, it may cost you more a month and a year on insurance than for the bike itself.
Figure an average of $2000/ year for alot of riders, especially new riders. This varies from state to state, so check first.
If you are a new rider and first time motorcycle ownerr, take a MSF beginner motorcyle rider course. You may even find one that specializes in sportbike riding.
If you are fairly confident with yourself in being a safe and skilled rider and can maturely maintain proper and safe throttle control, I DON'T suggest buying a used bike or a bike that is too small or two underpowered for you where you would have wasted your money and have to trade it in after a couple months.
You can look into a 250cc sportbike if you think it would be good enough for you for quite awhile, but if you can afford it, I would look into a 600cc for a beginner sportbike, but I wouldn't jump right into something more powerful than that. The power of a sportbike is different than a cruiser. A cruiser with 600cc is much slower than a 600cc sportbike which is damn fast. Be a new rider with a 1300cc sportbike and you are asking for trouble.
Also consider a Kawasaki Ninja 500. Very aggressive sportbike styling, decent power where it may suit you better than a 250cc and a lot less in price than a 600cc.

First, don't get a sport bike as a beginner bike. Pick up an old bike to learn on. Ride that for at least a year. Then you'll have a better idea what you really want out of a motorcycle. The most important thing about getting a bike is making sure it's suited to you. It doesn't matter how nice it looks if you can't reach the controls or the ground properly. After that you need to get a bike suited to what you want to do with it. If you want to travel a lot, get something comfortable with luggage. If you just want to boot around town seeing the sights, get something light enough to handle in traffic all day. If you want to go too fast to see the sights, then get a sport bike.

Im sure you want an answer. I got the same kind of responses when I wanted one. I had experience though from a 2-stroke motocross bike. If you know how to ride, stop, and shift gears, just be very alert. I bought a Yamaha R6 as my first bike, so Id have room to go grow, not everyone can afford to buy a another bike they finally want(after riding a weaker bike). Buy whatever fits you best all bikes can change exhaust tones and styling. Sit on them and imagine that for a few hours of riding, you cant change the fit and feel but you can for looks and performance. Good Luck

You should take the MSF course first, that will give you perspective on bikes, and enough skill to keep from dying.
It sounds like you are wording your question to get the answer you want, instead of the answers you need, so you ought to keep that in mind.
People with loud pipes are giving the motorcycle community a bad image, and it saddens me that you want to add to that.
There are plenty of free catalogs at the dealers, but they are geared to getting you to buy.
First bike, and you want a sport bike, Ninja250. It will break any speed limit.
I like the CBR, but you need at least 1 year of riding experience to handle one of the smallest, much less a 1,000 or a 600.

As an experience rider of 14 years street, I would recommend buying something used, but fairly new and as stock as possible. I cannot tell you what bike to buy, but for a great looking bike, new, and inexpensive, look into the 2008 Kawasaki 250 ninja. If i had disposable cash, I would look into buying the 2008 250 ninja.

There deadly. Theycan kill people easily. If you buy one, there is a high chance of you getting killed. There is no protection except for a helmet. That will help you're head not to get crushed but there is a chance it will. The helmet doesn't protect You're Heart that keeps you breathing. I wouldn't by one at all. Life or a Motorcycle? I would rather choose Life. Once this guy he rode on a motorcycle and he got killer. A car went too fast and then they imeraged together and he lived he was one of the lucky ones but now he has to live with so many things attached to him and he can't walk he can't talk. I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone else. It wouldn't hurt as much if he jut died. No attachments in Heaven He can talk and walk. He would be in his perfect form. Don't get a motorcycle they're extremely deadly.

You need to know how to ride one before you go out and spend a bunch of hard cash. Use this web site... ( http://www.msf-usa.org ) to find a basic rider's course in your area and take the course before you do anything else.
