the gov't makes too much money off of it. just like they won't legalize medical marij. because pharmaceutical co's can't patent a natural growing plant-no $ for them-so they feed people morphine, which is one of the most addictive drugs on the market.

Since when is smoking outlawed or banned?
Neither are against the law because simply put, I have the right to destroy my liver and lungs.
There are laws in place to prevent harm to others by your drinking and smoking, ie, no smoking in public places, no drinking and driving.
What's next, outlaw McDonald's cause there are too many obese people dying of diabetes?

By your logic fast food, car emissions, aerosol emissions, sex and mosquitoes should be outlawed as well. If anything punishments against drunk driving are justifiable but outlawing things doesn't prevent them from happening.

It isn't the booze which is the culprit. It is the idiot who doesn't have the tolerance for it , and feels he has all his senses about him that is the cause of motor vehicle accidents, alcohol addiction, kidney and liver transplants. When you see the amount of taxes generated by the brewery and distilling industries do you think your representatives in the senate and house would cut off their noses to spite their faces ?No one hollers about an additional tax on liquor or cigarettes.Nor does any one holler about an additional tax on each gallon of gasoline.

Well, it is assumed that most drinkers are responsible. We learned from the Prohibition (18th Amendment) that outlawing it will drive it underground to black market and cause an increase in crime.
